Start works | Zernike Campus goes gas free
From Thursday 20 February 2025, WarmteStad will continue with the expansion of their heat network on the Zernike Campus. This year, they will connect Duisenberg and Nijenborgh 4. In addition, they are preparing the connection of several other buildings. With this, the Campus will switch from natural gas to sustainable heat from its own environment. Contractor Visser & Smit Hanab is preparing the work and will cordon off the area where the work will take place.
Below you can read what this means for you. This is the first general announcement. We will keep you informed about the work and planning for each phase.
What will happen?
Various UG buildings on the Zernike Campus will be connected to WarmteStad's sustainable heat network. To do this, WarmteStad will have to cross Hanze’s terrain. WarmteStad's heat network lies underground. To lay the pipes, they dig and drill in and around the cycle and footpath in front of the Van Olstborg, Brugsmaborg and Kapteynborg. From here, they will continue to Landleven. Then, from there, they will do an underground drilling under Zernikelaan to the lawn in front of the Energy Academy.
What you will notice: diversions for cyclists and a footbridge for pedestrians
During the works, you cannot pass everywhere with your bike or on foot. This will be indicated with signs and solved where necessary with, for example, a footbridge. The places where work is being carried out are cordoned off with fences and there are traffic controllers where necessary. Blauwborgje will be closed briefly later in the spring. Information about this will follow as soon as it comes into play.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
