Application Requirements

In order to be eligible for an exchange at our Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, you have to fullfill certain prerequisities.

General requirements

  • Students are eligible for our exchange programme if they study a major in either Psychology, Sociology or Pedagogical/ Educational Sciences at one of our partner universities.

  • Students are strongly advised to have completed at least the first two years of their Bachelor's degree programme before starting their exchange semester at our faculty.

  • Master-level exchange students can study with us for a maximum of one semester.

  • Bachelor-level students can stay for up to two semesters, depending on the amount of places available according to the relevant exchange agreement.

Note: Courses for exchange students in the fields of Sociology and Pedagogical/ Educational Sciences are only offered in the autumn semester!

Language requirements

Incoming exchange students who wish to study at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences (BSS) have to meet the following language requirements:

Language requirements for students from BSS partner universities

This includes students applying via Erasmus+ KA103 Mobility for higher education between institutions in Programme countries (Erasmus+ students from partner universities inside the EU/ EEA and Turkey). This also includes students from partner universities outside the EU/EEA and Turkey.

Bachelor students (or students participating in Bachelor-level courses)

One of the options below

  • Confirmation letter from home university proving that your English proficiency equals at least level B2 according to CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference)
  • (Test) certificate proving that your English language proficiency equals at least level B2 according to CEFR (Duolingo test certificate not accepted)
  • TOEFL iBT: overall score of 80 (speaking and writing score 19)
  • IELTS: overall score of 6.0 (speaking score 6.0, writing score 5.5)
  • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) and Cambridge Proficiency (CPE): overall score of C, B or A

Master students (or students participating in Master-level courses)

One of the options below

  • Confirmation letter from home university proving that your English proficiency equals at least level C1 according to CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference)
  • (Test) certificate proving that your English language proficiency equals at least level C1 according to CEFR (Duolingo test certificate not accepted)
  • TOEFL iBT: overall score of 90 (speaking and writing score 20)
  • IELTS: overall score of 7.0 (speaking and writing score 6.0)/ CEFR Level of at least C1
  • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) and Cambridge Proficiency (CPE): overall score of C, B or A
Language requirements for students from non-BBS partner universities (ICM*, MFE, SHARE-ASEAN, Free Movers)

This includes students applying via International Credit Mobility*, Multi Faculty Exchange, SHARE-ASEAN or as free movers.

Bachelor students (or students participating in Bachelor-level courses)

One of the options below

  • TOEFL iBT: overall score of 80 (speaking and writing score 19)
  • IELTS: overall score of 6.0 (speaking score 6.0, writing score 5.5)
  • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) and Cambridge Proficiency (CPE): overall score of C, B or A

Master students (or students participating in Master-level courses)

One of the options below

  • TOEFL iBT: overall score of 90 (speaking and writing score 20)
  • IELTS: overall score of 7.0 (speaking and writing score 6.0)/ CEFR Level of at least C1
  • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) and Cambridge Proficiency (CPE): overall score of C, B or A

*Erasmus+ KA107 Mobility for higher education between Partner countries (Erasmus+ students from universities outside of the EU/EEA or Turkey). See also the Erasmus+ ICM website.

Exemptions:
Native English speakers do not need to hand in an English proficiency test certificate.

Note:
Please take into account that courses given at other faculties might require a higher level of English language proficiency!
