Higher Education Guide Masters: 6 Top Rated Programmes at FSE and Nanoscience overall best
The recently published Higher Education Guide for Master’s programmes has awarded the label of ‘Top Rated Programme’ to 6 degree programmes at the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE). In addition, 2 Master’s programmes are number 1 within their degree programme’s category. The University of Groningen again takes an overall first place among the nine classic universities of the Netherlands; this year sharing its first place with Maastricht.
The Higher Education Guide Masters (Keuzegids Masters) assesses annually all Master’s programmes in the Netherlands. A quality assessment is given for most programmes, based on evaluations given by students in the National Student Survey (NSE) and the NVAO evaluation.
Top Rated Programmes
Some programmes are so good that the Higher Education Guide Masters labels them as Top Rated Programme. These programmes score 75 points or higher. 6 Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Science and Engineering are getting (or keeping) this label:

- Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences
- Ecology and Evolution
- Mathematics
- Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Nanoscience
Five of these Master’s programmes also got labelled Top Rated Programme last year. For the seventh year in a row Nanoscience is in the top three of best Master’s programmes of the Netherlands. This year, Nanoscience is even overall best Master’s programme with the highest score of 100 points.

Best classic Master’s University in the Netherlands
Just like last year, the 2019 Higher Education Guide Masters rates the University of Groningen as best of nine classic universities in the Netherlands, this time sharing first place with Maastricht. The UG is fourth Master's university in the Netherlands if the technical universities are included. In total, 13 Master’s programmes of the University are labelled Top Rated Programme, and 12 Master’s programmes are number 1 in their programme’s category.
