New Double Degree Master and student exchange with Renmin University of China
On Wednesday 3 May, a memorandum of understanding was signed in China by Professor Sibrand Poppema, chairman of the Board of the University of Groningen, and Professor Liu Wei, the president of the Renmin University of China in Beijing. With this MOU, there is an agreement to start a joint Double Degree Master programme titled 'Urban Governance within a Global Environment'.
The two-year DDM is open to students of the Master's programmes in Environmental and Infrastructure Planning and Socio-Spatial Planning from the Faculty of Spatial Sciences in Groningen. They can opt to follow the first year of the programme in Beijing (China) and the second year in Groningen, or vice versa. Students from the partner at Renmin University, the Department of Urban Planning and Management of the School of Public Administration and Policy, can also enter the Double Degree. The DDM Urban Governance within a Global Environment starts on 1 September 2018. The programme is open to a maximum of five students from Groningen and five from Beijing.
In addition to this agreement, a student exchange agreement has also been concluded, where (in particular) Master's students can study at Renmin University for a period of three to five months as part of their study programme at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences.
Professor Gert de Roo of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, who was present at the signing, is excited. "Our students get the opportunity to obtain a Master's degree from a very good Chinese university."
