Bachelor Human Geography and Planning

Paulo Cigarro

My name is Paulo, and I am from Mozambique. I’m in my third year of the Human Geography and Planning (HGP) degree program. I decided to study HGP because of a combination of two factors: the city and the program's strength. Groningen is a vibrant, green, student city, while the program provides interdisciplinary approaches and a research-driven approach to learning, with theory as its foundation.

Ever since I was young, I have been interested in global challenges such as social inequality, climate change, development, and urbanization, among others. A great benefit of the HGP program is that it dives into all of these challenges in great depth, along with practical, real-world experience from experts in both the physical and human domains.

Throughout my time at the University of Groningen, I have been able to understand how the future of cities and communities is shaped, the dynamics between development at both local and regional levels, and the appropriate skills to visualize solutions and problem

Arkhat Almetayev

Arkhat Almetayev

Hello! My name is Arkhat, I am 21 years old and I am in my third year of the HGP programme. This year, I have the honour to be a representative of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences as a student ambassador and I aim to be your favorite ambassador!
I am a strong advocate for a sense of community in our faculty, not only will I guide and help prospective students in their academic journey at our incredible programme, but I can also support you as a friend (we can talk about gaming and movies!). I love connecting with my peers so feel free to reach out if you have any questions, or concerns or just want to chat.

Mila Kooijman

Hello! My name is Mila, and I am currently in my third year of the study Spatial Planning and Design at the University of Groningen.

As a student ambassador, I’m here to help prospective students with providing more information about our programme and studying in general. If you have any questions regarding one of the bachelor studies of our faculty, the difference between the studies or the difference with programmes at other universities in the Netherlands, you can reach out to me. Timothy Laukens

Hi! My name is Tim, I'm 20 years old and I'm from Vietnam and Belgium.
I'm currently in my third year of BSc Spatial Planning and Design and a Student Ambassador for the programme.
As a former Council member of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, I have lots of experience and knowledge about the content and developments of the studies. I've always appreciated how welcomed international students are here, and I intend to vouch for that to continue. I'm also active in the faculty association Ibn Battuta and a mentor for first-year students.

I'd be very happy to answer all your questions, have a conversation about being a student in our faculty and in our city, or just geek out about geography and planning.
