When: | Mo 10-07-2023 15:00 - 17:00 |
Where: | Gamma, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Groningen |
On July 10th, Professor Reidar Maliks of the University of Oslo will give a seminar talk entitled "Perfection through Participation: Bergk on Democracy".
Johann Adam Bergk (1769-1834). He was professor of philosophy and jurisprudence at the University of Leipzig. Bergk defended the French Revolution by developing a Kantian political philosophy bolstered by a perfectionist teleology. Bergk's Kantianism was able to accommodate a more robust democratic vision than what Kant himself had made room for.
Professor Maliks will examine Bergk's thoughts on democracy and their relation to Kant's own ideas. Here is the newest work from Professor Maliks wonderful project The Kantian Foundations of Democracy.
All are welcome, we hope to have as many as we can come out to hear Professor Maliks. There will be drinks following the seminar at Mr. Mofongo.
