The Invisible Discrimination before Our Eyes

The goal of this talk is to introduce a bioethical analysis of a widely neglected condition that affects between 3% and the 18% of the population. People affected by this condition (which will be revealed during the talk) experience lower levels of wellbeing than the average population and are heavily discriminated both in their professional and personal life. I will argue that such form of discrimination should be taken more seriously in the philosophical debate and that social, legal and medical measures should be taken in order to improve the quality of life of people affected by this condition.

Francesca Minerva is an FWO Postdoctoral Fellow in Philosophy at the University of Ghent, Belgium. She was previously a McKenzie Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and Academic Coordinator of the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics (CAPPE) Melbourne.
