International students
The Faculty of Economics and Business hosts international students from all around the world. They total over 1,500 students, representing every continent. The largest groups come from Germany and China. Our international students are highly motivated to gain work experience in the Netherlands. This is often because they want to start a career here after graduating. If your company has international ambitions, our international students can make an important contribution. In addition, their expertise, combined with an enormous sense of ambition and determination, can be hugely beneficial to your company. The degree programmes in Finance, Supply Chain Management and Technology & Operations, for example, attract large numbers of international students.
Since 2016, international (non-EU/EEA) students have been allowed to do internships in the Netherlands without needing a work permit. The internship must be relevant to the Dutch degree programme that the international student is following and must correspond with a clear learning plan.
Furthermore, by signing a tripartite internship agreement, University of Groningen needs to acknowledge that the internship that the non-EU/EER student is doing in your organization, is done in the context of their study programme. The internship therefore needs to be part of a credit bearing UoG course. You can find the internship agreement as used by all Universities of the Netherlands since 2022 here.
