Jenny van Doorn wins D&IN Insight Scientist 2023 Award
P rofessor of Services Marketing Jenny van Doorn has been hailed as Insights Scientist of 2023 by the Data & Insights Network (formerly MOA, Dutch Center of Expertise for Data, Analytics and Research). She made the strongest impression on the jury of the Data & Insights Awards within the theme ‘Robots: Key to Marketing Data and Insights’.
Van Doorn is professor within FEB’s Department of Marketing. She has been conducting scientific research on the use of robots in service for several years. This research has been published in leading international journals, such as the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, the Journal of Marketing Research and the Journal of Service Research. Her article in the latter journal, on consumer acceptance of social robots, even won a best paper award.
The jury consisted of experts in marketing research, in academia or in practice. They not only judged the award nominees based on the academic quality of their scientific output on the topic, but also assessed the way in which the candidates brought their knowledge to the attention of practitioners and the extent to which they collaborate with individuals/companies in marketing practice. The jury found that Van Doorn plays an important role in building bridges between academia and the (marketing) practice. She does this by collaborating with various practitioners for her research, such as Welbo (a company that develops robot applications) and various potential users of robots, such as healthcare organizations and hospitality companies. Van Doorn also regularly appears in the news to share her scientific insights.
