Home owner spends on average € 1,286 on local and regional taxes
In 2016 home owners spent on average €1,286 on local taxes. Most of this money went to the municipality (€743), and the rest to the water authorities (€321) and the province (€222). Renters pay on average €856 to the municipality, province and water authorities. These are the results of a study conducted by the Centre for Research on Local Government Economics (COELO), a research institute of the University of Groningen. The precise amounts per municipality can be found at www.coelo.nl .
This is the first time that researchers have been able to map the total amount paid by households to the municipality, province and water authorities. In the past, this was made difficult by the complex tariff structures used by the water authorities. COELO has developed a number of interactive cards that for each municipality show the amounts paid by households to the municipality, province and water authorities.
