The Faculty of Economics and Business is a faculty with a great diversity of people who all have an impact, big or small, on science and society. But who are these people? Within ‘Faces of FEB’ we connect with different students, staff members and researchers of the faculty and give a little peek into their world. This month: Vincent Cremer, the student assessor of 2022-2023.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am Vincent Cremer, 23 years old, and currently Student Assessor for the Faculty of Economics and Business at the RUG. Before starting the MSc BA Strategic Innovation Management, I followed the corresponding pre-master track. Before that, I studied International Marketing Management at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. In addition to being a FEB student, I am a member of A.G.S.R. Gyas and a musician at NNJO (North Dutch Youth Orchestra).

Even after growing up in the South East of Drenthe, I am proud to call Groningen my home for the past six years. During my studies, I have been actively engaged in student representation and have been focussing on sustainability in several matters, varying from committee work to freelancing and everything in between.

2. You are FEB’s student assessor of 2022-2023, why did you apply?

As mentioned above, I was engaged in student representation in my prior studies at Hanze. Although I had been solely focussing on studying during my time at the faculty, while doing so I saw some challenges and topics which should be addressed within the faculty. Therefore this year, I would like to contribute to the faculty in which I will make use of the voice of the students.

One year ago, I was oblivious to the existence of this function, but when I spoke with my predecessor last year around this time, she told me with much enthusiasm about the role and what it entails.

3. What can you tell us about your experiences so far?

So what does the role of the student assessor entail? The most important task is being an advisor to the Faculty Board, in which the student assessor provides the student perspective on matters discussed. In addition, I am working closely together with the study associations, student representation and other student-related topics (e.g. QUEST, faculty council, education meetings). Lastly, I help organise several events throughout the year, such as the welcoming festival, the national student survey promotion, the GUF-100 awards and the FORUM meetings for student representation on the faculty level.

4. What would you like to achieve this year within your function?

Focus points for me throughout the year will be student representation (the meeting with all bodies of student representation), enhancing pre-master integration after experiencing that last year and the changes that are happening in that programme. In addition, one of my passions is working on sustainability and I will try to implement that within the faculty as well. This to leave our world a better place and ensure that our next generation (of students) also has a wonderful place to live. The last topic I will be focussing on is education innovation to provide all students a pleasant atmosphere to excel in what they do at the faculty.
