Could you tell me a little bit about yourself?
I am Lois Heemsbergen, I am 21 years old and originally I come from Amersfoort. I am currently in my third year at FEB where I am in the programme Business Administration, following the ‘Business and Marketing’ track.
And currently you are in Bordeaux, right?
Yes, I am! For half a year I will be studying here at the Kedge Business School.
Why did you go for Bordeaux?
Because there is a business school located here, which is highly recommended. The whole university is specialized in Business and they are very future oriented offering many practical insights.
How did you know this was the case?
When you choose to do your minor abroad you get a whole list of universities you can go to. My preference was already to go for a business school. So I looked around online to find information about these schools and found a lot of information on the Kedge Business School that I liked.
And how was your welcome in Bordeaux?
It was very well organized! You could even choose to be picked up at the airport, so you were not left alone. In the first week we had an introduction for internationals, tours around the university and lectures about how your half a year would look like and what to expect. So I never had the feeling I was not informed well.
And Bordeaux? What is your most fun experiences so far?
Actually it is still very nice weather out here, so we went a lot to the city beach. Also, Bordeaux is a wine region so of course I went to the wine museum and went out for some wines! The restaurants here are also really nice. Bordeaux is actually the city within Europe with the highest amount of restaurants per citizen, so there is so much to discover!
And what are you plans for in Bordeaux?
I have planned to go to Paris and also I really want to go to the wine castle!
I hear you are a real wine fan?
Yes, I am! Actually, you can even follow courses about wine business at the university as well. I really considered following these courses, however they did not count as ECTS for the UG. Eventually since I did not know how much work all the other courses would be I did not add it to the list. But someday I really want to learn more through a workshop or something.
What is the biggest difference between studying in France and back in Holland?
In Groningen I was used to having all the courses in Dutch. However, now all my courses are in English and I am working with people from all over the world.
And do you like that?
It is so nice! Normally I stick with my Dutch friends, but now I am in such a different environment and get so many insights into other cultures. My group of friends for example consists out of so many nationalities: Germany, Canada, Italy and Sweden. You learn a lot because of this! For example: my housemates are from Sweden where sustainability is a major subject these days. They even get paid when they choose to go abroad by train instead of taking the plane! They teach me a lot about their habits, for example how to recycle properly.
Any plans for when you get back in Holland?
I will get back to Groningen, where I need to write my thesis. Then I will start my master, but I don’t know exactly what I want to do yet!
