This month’s Face of FEB is Kondwani, an E&BE student engaging in all different kinds of activities around here.

Can you tell me something about yourself?
Hey, I am Kondwani and I am 21 years old. I was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and came to Groningen in 2017 to study Econometrics. However, I quickly realized that this was no real good fit because I did not enjoy the classes really. That's why I switched to E&BE last academic year and now I feel like I picked the right study for me.
How did you decide to move to Groningen for studying?
Well, I always knew that I want to leave my home to experience something new and different. My goal was to move outside my bubble and explore the world. Before I graduated, my student counsellor in high school recommended me to go to Groningen and the Netherlands in general, so that's where I ended up.
And how do you like it here in Groningen?
For me, it’s super nice to continue meeting international students like I did in my high school and to experience a different culture. I also have the opportunity to travel around a lot which is great.
What do you do outside of university?
I am in the Programme Committee of Quest where we evaluate the courses of different studies and look at the evaluation of students to discuss ways in which to improve our university. It’s kind of a cycle of feedback on how to make our studies the best here. I applied in September 2018 and will definitely do so next year.
And why did you apply?
I just really like to be involved in things to get to know more and kind of be behind the scenes. With Quest, I feel like I am making a contribution to benefit everyone else.
And you are also a member of SIB, right? Can you tell me what is actually is that you are doing there?
SIB is the Dutch United Nations student association here in Groningen. We organize international events, for example, a lecture every Monday about a heated topic covering a large range of issues. There are in total 400 members from every faculty although it is mostly oriented towards international relations.
How come you applied for it?
I first heard about it during the ESN week and found it really interesting, so I became a member. Last year I was in the Introduction Committee organizing lectures for the introductory period and this year I am in the Activity Committee where we also organize lectures.I really love being member because it’s a great mix of fun, travelling and organizing interesting events. At SIB, people are so passionate about specific things which is really interesting to listen to and it’s great to be part of a community made up of different study programmes. So I am definitely going to continue next year.
And what about your future, do you already know what you want to do?
Well, I still have 2.5 years left of my bachelor but I think the finance direction would be interesting for me. I am also really interested in policy although I am not entirely sure whether I want to work in that field. So I am open-minded to different possibilities, I don’t have a clear direction set yet. This article is a collaboration between EBF, Quest and the Faculty.
Do you want to be listed as a Face of FEB or do you know someone who should not be missed here? Please let us know!
