Camilla Bodewes | Face of FEB
The Faculty of Economics and Business is a faculty with great diversity of people. But who are these people? Within ‘Faces of FEB’ we talk to different students of the faculty and give a little peek into the world of these FEB students. This week: Camilla Bodewes who is currently studying ‘International Business’.

Could you tell a little bit about yourself?
Ofcourse! I am Camilla and I am 22 years old. Currently I am in my last year of the International Business programme here at FEB. Actually, originally I am from Groningen as well.
Is that the reason you chose to study here?
No, first I really wanted to study somewhere else. But when I went to the Open Days of the UG I found out that I liked the economic studies in Groningen very much!
So you already knew you wanted to do something with economics?
No, this is actually a funny story. I hated this at high school. And when I had to choose a study I really did not know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to work in the future. At that time my father really wanted me to choose a study programme in economics, so he was pushing me to look at it. Eventually, to stop him from pushing, I went to the Open Days of International Business and found out it was more than just an ‘Economics’ study programme. There are also big parts of psychology and sociology that I really liked. So, my father was right all along!
And so you ended up at FEB?
Yes I did!
What was your most fun experience here?
Definitely when I went abroad to Taiwan in my third year! This is a mandatory aspect within my bachelor’s degree, but it was actually one of the reasons why I really liked this study. The year before I started my bachelor’s degree I also went abroad, so I knew it would be a lot of fun.
Oh really? Where did you go?
Yes! My mother originally comes from Brazil, so my whole life I wanted to learn about that country and culture. Taking a gap year to learn some Portuguese in Brazil was the perfect way to do so.
So the step towards going abroad again was much smaller for you?
On the one hand it was, because you know that it is a lot of fun and even when it is not you know time will go by. But on the other hand when I went to Brazil I was very young and I knew how nervous I was. I really did not want to become that nervous again!
And how was your study abroad experience eventually?
It was the best. The nice thing about going abroad within your study is that everyone comes with the same purpose and everyone wants to make friends. Also, Taiwan is a great country. It is small, so you can easily make a lot of trips! Another great thing was that the campus was at the sea with really nice views over the mountains. I often think back at this when I am cycling through the rain.
And now? Any plans for the future?
This year I will focus on finishing off my bachelor’s degree. After that I might take a gap year to get some more practical experience. I was thinking about an internship but I would also like to start up my own company.
That are some big plans!
Yes, they are! Within International Business you learn every little theory about companies and this made me really curious how this is in real life. So this is something I really want to experience.
