Fudan Double Degree programme

Fudan University in Shanghai, China and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands have worked together and developed two Double Degree programmes with BSc Economics and Business Economics and BSc Econometrics and Operations Research.

Fudan has one of the top economics schools among universities in China. This programme is ideal for students from Fudan University who would like to study in Europe for a few years.

What are the advantages to follow the Fudan Double Degree programme?

  • you graduate with two Bachelor's diploma from both universities in only four years;
  • you can continue with the one-year Master's programme in Groningen in Economics, International Economics and Sustainable Development, or Econometrics, Operations Research and Actuarial Studies;

At the Faculty of Economics and Business, you can follow the following Bachelor's programmes via the Fudan Double Degree programme.

BSc Economics and Business Economics

The Double Degree programme consists of two years study at the School of Economics at Fudan University and two years in the english-taught Economics and Business Economics programme (profile Economics or profile Economic Development and Globalization) at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen.

After four years (two years at Shangai and two years in Groningen), you will obtain a bachelor's degree from both Fudan University (BA Economics) and the University of Groningen (BSc Economics and Business Economics).

BSc Econometrics and Operations Research

During the first two years of the Double Degree programme you will follow the regular bachelor's programme in Mathematical Economics at the Fudan University. During the second year you apply for being selected to enter the final two years of the Econometrics and Operations Research programme at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen (UG).

You will be awarded with two degrees, BSc Econometrics and Operations Research from UG and BA Economics from Fudan University.

Entry requirements

Fudan University is responsible for the entrance requirements and selection of prospective students. The admission procedures in Groningen are the responsibility of the Admission Office in Groningen.

Costs

  • Tuition fees

The annual tuiton fees for non-EU/EEA are € 9500 (year 2020-2021).

  • Living expenses

The living expenses include food, books, clothes, public transportation, and leisurely activities. You will also need to take into consideration the costs of housing and insurance. Please keep in mind this a rough estimate of costs and it can depend from student to student.

Study opportunities

After gaining your Bachelor’s degree you can continue your studies in one of the one-year Master of Science programmes in Economics or Economic Development and Globalization (ED&G) or Econometrics, Operations Research and Actuarial Studies in Groningen.

Excellent students may qualify for the two-year Research Master’s degree programme in Economics and Business. Both the one-year MSc programme and the Research Master programme at the University of Groningen are highly recommended.

It is also possible to do a PhD in your chosen field at the University of Groningen. You may also wish to qualify for the Master programme in Economics at Fudan University.

Career opportunities

The types of activities and job profiles described below are based on the assumptions that you have graduated with a MSc Economics, MSc ED&G or MSc EORAS degree. The career prospects of double degree graduates (from Fudan and Groningen) are especially advantageous and likely to be in great demand. Having been trained in a multicultural environment, having gained a global perspective on economics and business issues, and excellent social and linguistic skills, double degree graduates have acquired all the necessary tools for a successful career in companies, corporations and other organizations with international markets and wide-reaching contacts.

Your Economics or ED&G degree will qualify you for a wide variety of functions in business as well as in (international) governmental organizations. In both cases, an Economics or ED&G graduate generally starts off in a trainee position to help develop advice or do analysis.
