Study facilities
The University of Groningen offers world-class facilities to open a world of opportunity to you. As a student, you’ll have access to a wide range of facilities to aid your academic progress. Our Language Centre offers a multitude of language courses, including basic Dutch courses to help our international students feel more at home in the Netherlands. Our library is a peaceful place to study, with coffee areas ideal for group break-out sessions or taking a breather. And, we have various other online and offline (research) systems in place to support you in your study process.
Library Study Spaces
The UG has three library locations – the University Library (UB) in the city centre, the UB Zernike and the Central Medical Library – offering access to more than three million printed books, one million ebooks, 80,000 e-journals, and 5,000 magazines. Or, for digital access to all our publications, use SmartCat, the university’s online library catalogue.
Library staff is available to assist you in finding relevant materials and information.
There are over 2,100 study places at the UB City Centre. You can also book a studio for study sessions via the UB app.

Online workspace
As a student, you’ll be able to use your student number and password to make use of services such as the student portal, which gives an overview of all personalised study information and have access to university email, progress reports on grades and Smartcat. -
Wireless Internet
Our students and staff all have access to our wireless Eduroam network in many of the university buildings and Eduroam supported institutions around the world. -
Printing Facilities
As a student, you can print out whatever you need using your student number. All you have to do is load credit on your student card using iDeal, VISA, or Mastercard, upload the document you want to print and go to the university printer’s. There you can manually log in or access your print job using your student card.
AV Services
AV equipment is available for university-related work, ranging from research and faculty communications to teaching, and PR. Laptops, camcorders, video projectors, cameras, various recorders, tripods and studio facilities available to staff and students.
Ocasys: Course Catalogue
Our online course catalogue system Ocasys provides an overview of all the courses available at the UG, along with their entry requirements, and study outcomes.
University Newspaper (UK)
UG students and staff receive weekly news updates from the University Newspaper (UK). Sent to your university email, these UG-centred articles are an easy way to keep abreast on what’s happening on campus.
Language Centre
The University’s Language Centre offers language courses ranging from Spanish and Italian to Japanese and Korean. You can also come here for the TOEFL test, for a free language café, to brush up on your academic skills and more. And, for our international students, there’s also Dutch, of course.
Studium Generale Groningen
The University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences are collaborating on the Studium Generale Groningen project. This project organises interesting lectures and debates on a wide variety of current topics.
