Other / different circumstances

In addition to the types of circumstances mentioned elsewhere, there may be other circumstances that could affect your study (progress). Below, you will find the most common situations mentioned, with an explanation of the corresponding support possibilities.

Pregnancy or parenthood

Combining a pregnancy or parenthood with your studies can be difficult and can cause your studies to be delayed. The UG offers various support options if you become pregnant while studying or if you are caring for a child. In any case, it is advisable to make an appointment with the study advisor at an early stage of your pregnancy to discuss the possible consequences for your studies. The same applies if you are going to study at the UG while you are already caring for a child.

What do you need to take into account?

If your circumstances affect your studies and cause you to fall behind schedule and/or have to adjust your study plan, be sure to raise the alarm in good time. The study advisor of your programme can inform you about a realistic study planning or a possible reduction of the Binding Study Advice (BSA) threshold. You may also be eligible for facilities and/or financial arrangements in the event of study delay. Ask the student counsellors at the Student Service Centre (SSC) for more information.

What do you need to do?

  1. Make a timely appointment with the study advisor - Inform the study advisor about your situation and discuss how it affects your study progress. The study advisor may decide to refer you to the student counsellor.

  2. Make a timely appointment with the student counsellor - You formally arrange the adjustments or facilities you need with the student counsellor. In addition, the student counsellor will advise you on possible financial arrangements in the event of a study delay of 15 ECTS or more.

Caretaking

Combining studying with caring for a family member or someone close to you can be difficult and can lead to study delay. Fortunately, the UG offers various support options for students who are caretakers.
