Welcoming Ceremony
Today marks the beginning of many students’ first day in Groningen, which is being celebrated with our annual Welcoming Ceremony. During the day there are workshops and presentations given to help get you settled in Groningen. Tonight is the Welcoming Festival, an exclusive party at Oosterpoort with live music, where you can dance and party with your new friends that you just met. You can still buy tickets here.
ESN Week
Staying in the trend of welcoming events, the ESN introduction week will be starting tomorrow. ESN week is the biggest introduction week for international students in Groningen. The week is filled with events to get to know the city better and to meet new people. The week includes events like culture and sports day, a pub crawl, dutch lessons, movie night and lots of parties.
Hullabaloo
The first edition of the music festival Hullabaloo will be held this weekend in Stadspark, including lots of local and international artists like Robin Schulz, Oscar and the Wolf, Craig David, de Jeugd van Tegenwoordig and many more. The lineup seems quite promising, so definitely not the worst way to spend your last weekend before school starts if you don’t have plans this weekend.
Eierbalfestival
If you want to dive nose-first into Dutch (and specifically, Groningen) culture, the eierballenfestival is the place to be. An eierbal is an egg covered in ragout and deep-fried in vegetable oil. Sounds pretty weird, I know, but it’s definitely something you should try while in Groningen. The festival is held at EM2, where you can learn how to make them yourself, participate in a pub quiz about Groningen, and the best part - taste test different kinds of eierballen.
120 Years of Vera
One of Groningen’s best music venues, Vera, is celebrating it’s 120th birthday this Saturday. That means free entry all day to see how Vera has been operating for the past century. There will be exhibitions and guided tours of the venue and lots of festivities.
