Go online!
Go online!

Yesterday the Dutch government announced that the lockdown measures will be upheld until at least the 20th of May. While four more weeks of staying at home sounds daunting, there are plenty of ways to make time go by quicker. To make life a little bit easier for you, we have gathered some activities taking place this week which you can attend via the comfort of your home to defeat boredom!

Temple King’s Broadcast [online event]

Usually known for their underground style parties, the Temple party collective has come together to host a special online event. During this three-day event (!) taking place from the 25th - 27th April, several local Groningen DJ’s will be showcasing their skills in your living room. So, make sure to change from your sweatpants into your party pants and turn your living room into a club.

Green Office Netflix Party

The green office has taken up arms against the boredom caused by social distancing. In the upcoming weeks, it will be hosting a virtual sustainability event under the name ‘Green Friday’s’ at the end of each week. Events may include classics such as online pub quizzes or lectures, but this week the series is going to start with an online Netflix party. Netflix Party is a Chrome extension, which makes it possible to watch a movie and chat together at the same time. This week the documentary “Chasing Coral” is on the menu, which follows a team of divers, photographers and scientists that set out to discover why coral reefs around the world are vanishing.

Online Yoga Sessions

If you are looking to get yourself moving a bit during the day, then you might want to check out this event taking place tomorrow afternoon. Study Association Esperia will be hosting an online yoga session….downward-facing dog and tree pose included. If you can’t make it during that time, don’t worry. Local yoga studio Sol et Luna is organising several yoga sessions every weekday throughout April on Instagram live to get you out of bed and have you start off your day on a positive note.

Online Pub Quizzes

Pub quizzes are probably one of the best ways to spend some online quality time together with your friends. Though I have the feeling that some teams are doing better online than in the real world (I wonder why that is…), it is still a great way to test your knowledge. The pub quiz organised by The Student Hotel (19:30 every Wednesday) is a good place to start off if you are looking for a quiz with a very international vibe. If you would like to stay more local (and speak Dutch) you have to check out the one and only Toeter quiz taking place at 19:00 every Wednesday and Sunday. Bonus tip: the nudge has created a list where you can find a different online pub quiz for every day of the week.

UG MOOCs

The University has put together several MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) which may be interesting for you if you want to expand your skill set during these trying times. For example, if you are looking to improve your study techniques, you can join this course where you can improve your study skills and get better results by learning to use the 'three-step study model’. In case you have your study skills already figured out, but you want to improve your Dutch make sure to check out this Dutch beginners course organised by the University’s language centre.
