NL Scholarship

NL Scholarship

The NL Scholarship is a €5,000 grant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to study a Master’s degree in the Netherlands. The EEA consists of the EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Please note that students from Switzerland and Suriname are not eligible to apply.

This one-time scholarship helps cover your living expenses during your first year.

Are you eligible?

You can apply if you:

  • Do not hold an EEA nationality

  • Are planning to study in the Netherlands

  • Do not hold a Dutch degree

  • Have outstanding academic results from your undergraduate studies

  • Meet the University of Groningen's specific admission requirements

  • Have received an official admission letter from the university

  • Write a strong motivation letter explaining why you are a good candidate for this scholarship

Selection process

Applications are carefully reviewed and ranked based on your academic background and motivation. All applicants will receive a notification about the outcome, no need to follow up.

Deadlines for 2025–2026:

  • First call: Closed

  • Second call opens: 1 March 2025

  • Application deadline: 1 June 2025 (23:59 CET)

You can only apply to one call, not both. Make sure your application is complete, incomplete applications will not be considered.

Please note: incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration. Carefully read how to apply and make sure to attach all required documents to your application. You can only apply for either the first or second call, not both.
