Education Honours College Bachelor's Honours Programme

Admission procedure

Thank you for your interest in the Honours College! Admission to the programme is based on selection, as the number of places in the Honours Programme is limited. The 250 places are divided equally among the faculties. In order to be eligible for admission, you must meet certain requirements.

Admission Requirements

To ensure that we select the most suitable students for the programme, we look at your motivation and expectations of the programme. We also want to ensure that you are able to follow this additional programme without this being at the expense of your performance in your regular bachelor's programme, which is why we look at your achieved study results so far. Inform yourself well, attend information meetings and delve into the admission requirements:

  1. You are able to convince us of your motivation and suitability for the programme.
  2. You have completed all ECTS of the first semester and have achieved a weighted grade point average of 7 or higher.
  3. You are a first-year bachelor's student at the UG.
  4. Almost all lectures, literature and assignments are in English. You have sufficient knowledge of the English language to be able to follow the Honours Programme.

If you have any questions about these admission requirements, please see the EAR for more information or contact us at honours rug.nl.

To apply for a place, you must provide the information below in this online form (available from the end of January). Using a Google Form, you can submit your documents and answer a few questions about, for example, your motivation, eligibility, grades and ECTS. Wait for the results of the first semester before filling in the form.

Admission Documents

Here you will find an overview of the requested content of the application file:

  1. Personal data (e.g. name, student number, faculty/programme).
  2. A brief explanation of your motivation and suitability for the programme.
  3. An overview of all the results achieved so far in your Bachelor's programme and the total number of ECTS.
  4. A short resume.
  5. A video in which you answer faculty Honours Programme specific questions.

If you have any questions about the composition of the application file, please contact us at honours rug.nl.

Please note: The deadline for applications is March 14, 2025 at 4:00 pm!

Placement Procedure

Shortly after the submission deadline, a decision will be made on admission or rejection based on the file. However, if it turns out that there are more suitable candidates than available places (per faculty or programme), a lottery will be held. The outcome of this lottery will determine whether or not you will be placed in the Honours Programme. We will inform you about this before the official start of the Honours Programme; the Welcoming Ceremony (early April).

NB. At some small faculties (Philosophy and Religion, Culture and Society and Spatial Sciences) the selection procedure is set up differently. Applicants are interviewed on the basis of their application file, after which a decision is made on placement or rejection.
