Study grant (DUO)

  • When am I entitled to a student grant from DUO?

    Entitlement to student finance depends on various factors, including nationality. Check the DUO website for an overview of the conditions: Dutch residents and EU/EEA residents.
  • How do I apply for a student grant from DUO?

    You can apply for a student grant from DUO via their website. Please note that you need a DigiD to do this.

  • What is tuition fee loan?

    Tuition fee loan is a loan for paying tuition fees. You will find more information about the tuition fee loan on the DUO website
  • What exactly is the 1 February arrangement?

    If you stop your student grant before 1 February in your first year of registration, you do not have to repay your performance-related grant and student travel product. This is called the February 1 regulation. You must of course repay a loan. On the DUO website you will find more information about the February 1 regulation and the associated conditions.

  • I am no longer entitled to a student grant from DUO and still need six months to obtain my degree. What should I do?

    In special cases there are organizations (eg private funds and foundations) that - under certain conditions - can lend a helping hand to students. Think, for example, of students who have high expenses due to a functional impairment or refugee students who do not receive full funding for their studies. For more information, please contact a student counsellor at the Student Service Centre.
  • What are the consequences of deregistration from the University of Groningen for my student finance?

    Your student finance is not automatically terminated. You have to arrange this yourself at DUO. Do this on time, because you are no longer entitled to student finance, the student travel product or a loan from the month in which you are officially deregistered.
