Transmission

The quantity transmission (T) describes the fraction of the impinging radiation that passes a layer of matter. In the case of electromagnetic radiation, the transmission is described by an exponential function, which depends on the attenuation coefficient (μ), the thickness of the absorbing layer (d) and the buildup factor (B):

T(d) = B e-μd
