Root taking

Taking the root is an operation involving two numbers, the radicand x and the index or degree n, and answers the question of which number to raise to the power n to obtain the radix x. Taking the root is written as b√x using the radix sign (√).

? 3 = 8
? = 3√8 = 2

The inverse (opposite) operation of taking the root is exponentiation.
