University card

  • What is a University card?

    All students will be issued with a University card. This card will be issued once and remain valid throughout your entire study career. You University card will lapse when you deregister.

    The University card can be used
    • at the printers and photocopiers
    • to borrow books from the University Library
    • to access the University Library
    • as proof of identity when you register for and sit exams
    • to use the facilities of the Sports Centre if the card is 'geACLOtiveerd'.

  • How and where can I upload a photo for my student card?

    To receive your student card you need to be fully enrolled as a student and have uploaded your photo for the card in your Brightspace account.

    Instruction upload photo
    You can only upload the photo if your RUG account is activated.

    • Go to Brightspace and log in with your S-number (for example s1234567) and password
    • Click on UG Tools
    • Select "Statement of enrollment and photo" and upload your photo. 

    Requirements photo
    The photo must meet the following requirements:

    • Your head is shown in full and faces toward the camera (portrait photo)
    • You are not wearing sunglasses, hat, cap or other head covering (except head coverings for religious reasons)
    • No other person or object should be visible
    • The photo is clear and good quality
    • The photo has not been edited by filters or other effects
    • Maximum file size: 5Mb Photo format: JPG

  • How can I deposit money on my University card

    You can deposit money on your University card via the Printing at the University of Groningen portal.

    Here you can also submit a request for the refund of your credit.

  • Will I receive a new University card each year?

    No, you will receive the University card once. The card remain valid throughout your entire study career. Your University card will lapse when you deregister.

  • What should I do if I want a new photograph on my University card?

    Go to the Student Information and Administration and order a new card on payment of € 15.

  • I need my University card to become a member of a student society or sports club. Can I receive a temporary proof of registration?

    Please note!
    A statement of enrollment can only be issued if you are officially enrolled.

  • How and when can I get my student card?

    You will receive your student card within approximately 10 working days after you have been fully enrolled as a student and have uploaded your photo in your Brightspace account.

    Dutch address
    Students with a Dutch address will receive their student card per post on their correspondence address. You can find and change your correspondence address in Studielink.

    Foreign address
    Students with a foreign address will receive an email as soon as their student card is ready for pick up at the Student Information & Administration in the Academy Building. To pick up your card, please make an appointment 
    here. Keep in mind that you should be able to identify yourself when picking up your student card.
