Registration Master's degree programme
The page below provides a step-by-step explanation of how you can apply and register for a Master's degree programme on the basis of a Dutch qualification.

When will my registration become official?
You will be officially enrolled when all requirements on the checklist have been completed before the start of the degree programme.

You have submitted an enrolment request through Studielink before the deadline.

Your personal details and previous education have been verified.

You have arranged the payment of the tuition fees before the deadline.
Steps of registration procedure
1. Check the admission requirements
You will only be able to start a Master's degree programme if you have obtained your Bachelor's degree ('harde knip'). This means that you must have passed all components of your Bachelor's degree programme. This measure applies to all students, including students of pre-master's and bridging programmes.
Additional requirements
Additional admission requirements may apply and some master's programmes have a selection procedure in place.

Certain Master's degree programmes of the University of Groningen have a selection procedure in place.
This means that you must both meet the admission requirements and successfully complete the selection procedure in order to be admitted to the Master's degree programme.
We must first determine whether you are admissible to the Master's degree programme on the basis of your qualification. Therefore, the registration procedure looks different.
2. Register in Studielink
The deadline can be found on the page of the Master's degree programme you have chosen.
What should I do?

You can register with Studielink, if you follow your Bachelor's degree at the University of Groningen and you want to do the follow-on Master's degree.

Contact the faculty that offers your chosen Master's degree programme if you:
-
want to register for a Master's degree programme that is not directly related to your bachelor's degree programme.

obtained your Bachelor's degree at a different university in the Netherlands.
-
have completed a higher professional education.
You need an admission certificate to be registered. Once you have received your admission certificate, you can submit an enrolment request.

Create Studielink account (if you have not already done so)
Information about creating an account can be found on the Studielink account page on the UG website. In addition, you will find information on what to do if you run into any problems.
Use existing Studielink account (if applicable)
If you already have a Studielink account, please use your existing account and do not create a new one. That way you will have the same student number for all your applications.
Your personal details must be verified before you can continue processing your registration with the UG. In principle, the verification takes place when creating a Studielink account.
Do you have a Dutch residential address?
If you have an official home adress in the Netherlands, you must create an account by logging in with your DigiD. Your personal data is automatically verified via DigiD.
Don't have a DigiD?
If you do not have a DigiD and cannot apply for a DigiD, your identity will need to be verified by another means in order to create a Studielink account. You will then need to upload a scan or photo of your passport or European identity card in Studielink, which then will be checked to see if your details are authentic and complete.
Already have a Studielink account?
In that case your personal details will already have been verified when you created the account.
3. Complete your registration
During the application process you can check the status of your application in the Student Portal. In order to be able to log into the Student Portal, you will first need to activate your student account.
UG Tools
In the Student Portal you can find the option Grades and Enrolment under the ‘UG Tools’ menu. If you click Grades and Enrolment (Progress) you can then go to your Enrolment applications and find an overview of your application(s) in our registration system.
Overview current status
This overview shows the current status for each step and what you need to do to complete the step. If you have submitted applications for more than one programme, the steps to be completed may vary per application.

Is the box ticked? Then you have successfully completed this step.

If the box is still empty, you will still need to finish that step, or we are still processing your information.
Pay the tuition fees or arrange a (digital) direct debit payment before the start date of your degree programme.
For example:
-
Start date 1 September: the university must have received your payment no later than 31 August*.
-
Start date 1 February: the university must have received your payment no later than 31 January*.
Please note: An academic year runs from 1 September to 31 August.

If you start on 1 September, you pay (initially) for twelve months.

If you start on 1 February, you pay for the period from February to August (seven months). If you continue with your degree programme as of 1 September, you will pay again from 1 September to 31 August.
If you deregister, you may be entitled to a refund of (part of) the tuition fees.
* For non-EU students, other deadlines may apply due to the immigration procedure.
Then you will not be enrolled.
Consequences
Not being enrolled will have consequences for
-
Participation in education and exams.
-
Access to the University Library.
-
Your student grant from DUO.
-
Your student travel product (DUO).
During the enrolment process you will be asked to upload a passport-style photograph. This photograph will be used on your university identity card, your student card.
What criteria must the photo meet?
The photograph must:
-
be passport standard
-
be in portrait orientation (i.e., higher than it is wide)
-
be taken with your eyes open and clearly visible (no sunglasses or tinted glasses and no hair across your eyes)
-
show your full head, without any head covering unless you wear one for religious beliefs or medical reasons
-
show you on your own
-
be in colour
-
be taken within the last 12 months
-
be clear and in sharp focus
When will I receive the student card?
After you have completed your registration and uploaded a photo on the Student Portal, your UG student card will be ready within a few weeks.
How will I receive the student card?

If you have a Dutch address, the card will be sent to that address.
-
If there is no Dutch address registered in our system, your will receive an email when and where you can pick up your card.
Practical information
You will receive a one-off UG student card that is valid for your entire study career. Have you deregistered from your programme? This means you will no longer be able to use your UG student card.
When will I receive my UG student card?
You will receive the UG student card within 2 weeks after you are officially registered and have uploaded a passport photo in your Student Portal.
Where do I receive the UG student card?
- Do you have a Dutch address? Then the University card will be sent to this address.
- If no Dutch address is registered in our systems, then you will receive an email when you can pick up your student card from Student Information & Administration.
You will automatically receive your statement of enrolment by email within two working days after your registration is official.
You can also download your own statement of enrolment using the UG tools in the Student Portal.
Before start of the programme
You can cancel your registration via Studielink up until the starting date of your programme. Any tuition fees you have paid will be reimbursed in full.
For example:

starting date is 1 September: you can cancel your registration until 31 August.

starting date is 1 February: you can cancel your registration until 31 January.
Do you receive a student grant from DUO?
To avoid any financial issues you must notify DUO that you have cancelled your registration in time.
After start of the programme
You cannot cancel your registration after the degree programme has started, but you can deregister.
