Ever heard of webclasses? If you're trying to figure out which bachelor's programme is the best fit for you, they could be just what you need. Webclasses provide a sneak peek into your potential studies, making it easier to make informed decisions about your future. Here’s everything you need to know about webclasses and why you should (definitely) consider joining one!
What Are Webclasses?
Webclasses are online seminars you can take at home to see if a certain bachelor's programme is a good fit. They are designed to give you a taste of what to expect in your first year of study. Instead of diving into an entire curriculum, they offer a snapshot of course content and key topics you'll encounter. This preview is invaluable for determining whether a programme aligns with your interests and goals!
Why Join a Webclass?
1. Confirm Your Choice
Webclasses help you verify that a programme is right for you. By engaging with the material, you can lower the risk of making not the best choice and ensure the programme suits your needs.
2. Free and Accessible
Open to both Dutch and international students, webclasses are completely free. There are no special requirements or conditions for enrollment, making it very easy to jump in!
3. Easy Access with Personal Support
After you register, you’ll receive a link with information about the upcoming classes. You’ll be contacted by a student assistant who provides feedback on your assignments, an added benefit that sets webclasses apart from MOOCs! Tutors are also available to answer any questions you might have. That is quite the personalized experience!
4. A Cost-Effective Way to Test Your Fit
Webclasses are a low-cost method to assess whether a programme is right for you. They offer a gentle introduction to the course content and help you evaluate your interest and skills, including essay writing.
5. Specialization Insights
If you’re interested in programmes like Global Responsibility & Leadership (GRL), webclasses allow you to explore specific specializations. For Data Science & Society (DSS), they are organized by themes, providing a focused preview of the programme.
Who are webclasses for?
Webclasses are mainly designed for high school students aged 15-17, but they can also benefit older students seeking extracurricular activities. While webclasses don’t provide extra credits, some high schools recognize them as part of their extracurricular offerings. Unlike Open Days, which cater to a wider audience, webclasses are tailored for students who have already shortlisted a programme and are considering it seriously.
When and where are webclasses offered?
Webclasses are available twice a year, with registration periods in the fall (November) and spring (March). Each webclass lasts four weeks, and you can complete it at your own pace, with weekly deadlines. While there are mandatory and recommended readings, there are no fixed meeting times, allowing you to balance it with your own schedule.
All webclasses are conducted online, so you can participate from the comfort of your home. You won’t need any additional software; everything is managed through Brightspace, giving you an experience similar to that of current University of Groningen students.
Moral of the story: give it a go!
Participating in a webclass is a straightforward and free way to confirm that a programme is right for you. It helps alleviate any doubts and gives you a clear sense of whether the field aligns with your long-term academic and career goals. By engaging with the course content, you can make a well-informed decision about your future studies.
In summary, webclasses offer an excellent opportunity to explore your academic path and ensure that you're making the right choice for your future. So why not give it a try? You might just find your perfect fit!
The fall session is just around the corner! Register now (here!) to begin your 4-week journey from November 18 to December 15. You'll finish just in time for the holidays and have a great extracurricular activity under your belt! ;)
