From career fairs to conferences, liven up your event with one of our workshops

You can book Career Services trainers to provide workshops for (study) associations, Faculties and (other) organisations linked to the University of Groningen.

Next to providing workshops/training you can hire us for CV, cover letter, and LinkedIn checks. Example events where we could do this are career fairs and conferences.

A couple of house rules:

  • Please contact us no later than 6 weeks ahead of your scheduled event. We can’t guarantee that we are available, but this increases the chance that we are.
  • The trainer has the right to reject your request. A good reason for rejection would, for example, be quality. Sometimes, due to e.g. group size (minimum sign ups 10), time available or the request itself, the quality will not be as high as we and our customers, are used to. This is a reason for us not to do it, as we strive for high quality training.
Assessments

For many applicants, in addition to creating a CV and writing a motivation letter, there is an extra step in the application process: making an assessment. With an assessment, a potential employer tests your personality and skills. Number sequences, logical reasoning, personality tests; these can all be part of an assessment. You don’t have to be a math genius to do well. Preparation is key, and this is what we will help you with during the workshop. You will learn about different kinds of assessments and how you can prepare for them. Above all, we will do a lot of practicing.

What Are My Skills?

You are at the beginning of your career and have begun your search for a great job. The jobs you come across have various skills described in the job requirements. How do you find out if your skills match what is required? What skills and qualities do you actually have, and how can you describe them? Also, what skills do you still want to develop? During this interactive workshop we help you answer these questions. You will learn what a skill actually is, and through a number of practical assignments we will work on building your personal skill passport.

LinkedIn

Did you know that LinkedIn represents jobs at all levels across all professions? It is the online tool to connect with potential employers and interesting organizations. In this workshop, we will show you how to create a professional profile that stands out. During the workshop, you will update your profile in real-time through various assignments. Once your profile is up-to-date, we will focus on expanding your network and searching for interesting job opportunities.

Pitching Yourself

“Can you tell me something about yourself?” Whether you are at a networking event, at a job interview or just starting a new job, this is a question you will hear all the time. If you can pitch yourself well, you can answer this question like a pro. Who are you, what are your qualities and what do you want? During this workshop you will learn to verbalize what makes you unique and what your personal brand is. You will write your personal pitch and practice presenting your story in a convincing way. Do you want to learn how to give a powerful and authentic pitch? Then this workshop is perfect for you.

Professional Self-Analysis

What do you want to do after your studies? Where do your strengths lie, and what suits you best? To discover what you want, you first need to understand who you are. In this workshop, we will explore your strengths, challenges, values, and skills. Through various interactive exercises, you will have the opportunity to analyze and reflect on different aspects of yourself. The workshop will provide you with insights that you can use in your search for organizations and roles that are a perfect fit for you!

CV

Imagine you've found a great job opening and want to apply. How do you make sure your CV stands out? In the application and selection process, your CV is one of the most important documents. In this workshop, we will dive into the proper layout, structure, and what should (and shouldn't!) be included on your CV. We'll also look at how to make your CV stand out and tailor its content to the job opening. Through practical assignments, you'll learn how to create a professional CV for any interesting job opportunity.

Motivation Letter

In this workshop, we will focus on writing a strong cover letter. How do you stand out in the crowd? What structure should you use? How do you translate your skills to clearly demonstrate that you are suitable for the position and a good fit for the organization? In addition to the traditional cover letter, we will also explore other creative forms of expressing motivation. And most importantly, we will practice a lot! After this workshop, you will have the basic tools to articulate your motivation powerfully and clearly in your application.

Networking

We all know that networking is important for your career. But did you know you can start doing it during your studies? Building a high-quality network is valuable, both now and after you graduate. In the Networking workshop, we'll guide you through 6 steps on how to effectively and purposefully network, both online and offline. We'll teach you what networking actually entails, how to start conversations, and how to build valuable and long-lasting connections. And, of course, we'll practice networking!

Negotiating

After your job interview, you receive fantastic news: you're the top candidate for the position! However, there's still one hurdle you need to tackle: the salary negotiation. How do you prepare and ensure you stand your ground? To negotiate effectively, you need to be persuasive, and that's exactly what we'll work on during this workshop. Through a realistic scenario, we'll demonstrate that negotiation is essentially a game where you can shape the rules yourself!

Job Interview

Did you know that when you're invited for a job interview, you've already left 95% of the competition behind? Preparation is essential to demonstrate that you're the best choice for the position. In this workshop, we'll show you how to conduct research to come well-prepared, how to answer (difficult) questions, and what questions you can ask the employer. We'll cover various aspects of a job interview and, of course, we'll also help you make a good first impression. Additionally, we'll engage in practical exercises.

For more information see Cancellation or modification of a booking by applicant.

Timeline

A booking must be submitted to Career Services at least 6 weeks prior to the planned event via the form that can be found here.

While completing the application form, the applicant should also schedule a video call with Career Services. During this video call, the details of the booking will be discussed and agreed upon.

Accepting a request

Career Services strives to carry out all desired bookings. However, submitting a request does not guarantee that the booking will be accepted. Acceptance of a booking is subject to availability of time and Career Services staff.

Rejecting a request

Career Services reserves the right to reject a booking request based on the completed form or subsequent video call. A reason for rejection may be that the quality of the workshop cannot be guaranteed due to the available time, the number of (expected) participants, the content of the application, etc.

Order confirmation

When the request for a booking has been accepted and the applicant has reached agreement with Career Services via video call and/or e-mail, the assignment is recorded in an order confirmation. This document will be sent to the applicant by e-mail by Career Services.

Communication channels

After a booking has been accepted by Career Services, all follow-up communication about the booking in question must be made to and from workshopscareerservices rug.nl (workshops and career talks) or careerservices rug.nl (other bookings, such as CV checks).

Required information

Completeness and timeliness of information

The applicant is expected to provide Career Services with all information that Career Services deems necessary for the correct execution of the booking in the desired form, desired manner and in a timely fashion. Career Services determines what is expected from the applicant and informs them about this via Google Form and the (video) call that follows.

Accuracy and reliability of information

The applicant guarantees the correctness, completeness and reliability of the information provided by them to Career Services, even if it originates from third parties.

Booking requirements

Minimum time

Career Services workshops generally last 2 hours. Shorter or longer workshops are possible on request and after consultation. Naturally, this duration does not apply to bookings of other services, such as career talks or CV checks.

Minimum number of participants

The minimum number of participants for a workshop booking is ten (10). The applicant is expected to monitor whether this minimum number is met. If the applicant notices that this is not the case, they must inform Career Services at least 48 hours prior to the planned booking. In mutual consultation, it will then be determined whether the booking can be moved to another date. However, if a low number of participants is not reported in time, Career Services will assess whether or not the booking can go ahead. If this has to be cancelled due to too few participants, without the applicant having contacted Career Services about this in advance, Career Services reserves the right to charge a late cancellation fee.

Cancellation or modification of a booking by the applicant

Timely cancellation or modification

If the applicant wishes to cancel the booking or change the date, time or location of the booking, this can be done free of charge if this is communicated to Career Services at least 5 working days prior to the planned booking via the appropriate communication channels.

Please note: it is not possible to change the content of the booking of a workshop so shortly before the planned booking. Such a request must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the planned booking.

Late cancellation

If the applicant wishes to cancel the booking, but informs Career Services about this less than 5 working days prior to the planned booking and/or does not use the correct communication channels for this purpose, meaning there is a reasonable chance that the cancellation is not received by Career Services in time, Career Services reserves the right to charge a late cancellation fee to cover costs already incurred by Career Services (in the form of preparation time or already scheduled on-call workers).

Late modification

If the applicant wishes to change the date, time, or location of a booking, but communicates this to Career Services less than 5 working days prior to the planned booking and/or does not use the correct communication channels for this purpose, so that it is likely that the desired modification is not received by Career Services in time, Career Services reserves the right to charge costs to cover costs already incurred by Career Services (in the form of on-call workers already scheduled, for instance).

Late cancellation fee

The costs for late cancellations depend on the type of booking. For the booking of a workshop this is €90, for bookings of services such as CV checks or a short career talk (approx. 30 min) the late cancellation fee is €45.

Cancellation due to force majeure

In the event of a late cancellation by the applicant due to force majeure, no late cancellation fee will be charged. However, in the event of force majeure, the applicant must contact Career Services as soon as possible. Career Services will review to what extent there is indeed force majeure. Career Services will also check whether the booking can take place at another time. The final and final assessment of whether there is force majeure is up to Career Services.

Cancellation of a booking by Career Services

Career Services will do everything they can to ensure a booking will take place. However, should Career Services for whatever reason have to cancel the booking, the applicant will be notified as soon as possible. In consultation with the applicant, Career Services will set a new date for this booking.
