GUF-100 prizes 2020
During the annual summer ceremony, the ‘best’ students of our university will be presented with a GUF-100 award. This tradition started in 1993 when, on the occasion of the centennial anniversary of the Groningen University Fund (GUF), the GUF-100 awards were introduced. The award consists of a certificate and €2500 prize money.
Each faculty can nominate three candidates, and the GUF jury will select a winner from these three nominees. A broad call is put out to encourage potential candidates to apply, or they can be nominated by lecturers or fellow students. From these applications, a faculty committee selects the three nominees. Excellent academic results are important for the nominees, but at the same time, and at least as important, the candidates must demonstrate that they show special personal or academic merits outside their degree programme.
It is gratifying to see how many students have applied for the GUF-100 award this year, how the faculty selection committees have once again done an excellent job to arrive at a well-reasoned nomination and, finally, it has been a joy for the jury members to read the often beautiful motivational letters and CVs of so many wonderful, motivated students. The speeches show only a small part of this, but you can be assured that we, as a university, have every right to be proud of the fact that we have so many excellent students in our midst.
