Why the University of Groningen?

Before coming to Groningen, I studied Politics at the University College London (UCL) and then moved to Turkey to work for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) – the UN Migration Agency in Ankara. After working in Turkey for three years, I decided that I wanted to deepen my understanding of how international organizations shape current world politics and more particularly, I wanted to specialize in the issues of migration.

Even though I initially had doubts about moving to Groningen, within a week of arriving in the city I knew I have made the right decision. Thought-provoking classrooms, professional and approachable staff, modern facilities and a city full of (international) students is a formula for academic success.

I have nine hours of lectures spread across three days per week, but I spend at least twice as much studying in the library. The classes and readings are a weekly challenge, which requires my full concentration, patience, and dedication. As a part of the degree, I have to do an internship of at least seven weeks, and the best part of it is - it can be anywhere in the world!

Biography

I’m Erekle from Georgia, currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Relations and International Organizations (IRIO). I arrived in Groningen in September 2018 and have enjoyed every day so far… well except those leading up to deadlines and exams.
