Vanaf woensdag 26 mei 2021 brengt de Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health wetenschappelijke kennis over virussen en bacteriën, in de vorm van een interactieve installatie genaamd ‘Klein Venijn?', naar de kinderen van basisschool Groningse Schoolvereniging (GSV) in Helpman.

Omdat we door corona niet meer op openbare plaatsen kunnen komen, heeft de Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health het initiatief genomen om de kennis in te pakken en naar scholen te brengen. Zo kunnen de kinderen leren hoe virussen en bacteriën zowel onze vijand als onze vriend kunnen zijn. De GSV-school vindt dit initiatief "simpelweg buitengewoon".

Deze unieke installatie is ontwikkeld in samenwerking met wetenschappers van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, het UMCG en de Hanzehogeschool Groningen en is bedoeld om het publiek bewust te maken van niet alleen nadelen maar ook de voordelen van virussen en bacteriën om ons heen. ‘Klein Venijn?' bestaat uit een interactief spel, informatiepanelen en een video. De installatie werd vorig jaar voor het eerst geïntroduceerd in Forum Groningen en zou daarna op tour gaan langs andere locaties in Noord-Nederland. Omdat de meeste openbare gelegenheden helaas moesten sluiten vanwege de coronapandemie, leek het de perfecte oplossing om de installatie naar scholen te brengen. De GSV-school pakt deze kans met veel enthousiasme aan.

Tot 6 juni is de expositie te bewonderen door de leerlingen van de GSV-locatie Groningen in Helpman en daarna verhuist de expositie naar de GSV-locatie in Haren. We zijn in gesprek met andere scholen en locaties om 'Klein venijn?' ook daar te plaatsen.

Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health brings viruses and bacteria to a primary school in Groningen

Starting Wednesday 26 May 2021, the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health brings scientific knowledge about viruses and bacteria to children in a Helpman primary school Groningse Schoolvereniging (GSV) in the form of an interactive installation called ‘Tiny troublemakers?’.

As corona has prevented us from visiting public places, the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health took the initiative to ‘pack the knowledge in a truck’ and bring it to children in schools where they can learn how viruses and bacteria can be our enemy as well as our friend. The GSV school finds this initiative “simply extraordinary”.

This unique installation was developed in cooperation with scientists from the University of Groningen, UMCG, and Hanzehogeschool Groningen and is designed to raise awareness among the public about not only the harms but also the benefits of viruses and bacteria around us. ‘Tiny Troublemakers?’ includes an interactive game, information panels and a video. It was first introduced in Forum Groningen last year, and was set to go on tour to other venues across the Northern Netherlands. As most public places had to unfortunately close due to the coronavirus pandemic, bringing the installation to schools seemed like the perfect solution. The GSV school is approaching this opportunity with great enthusiasm.

The exposition will be available to the pupils of the GSV’s Groningen location in Helpman until 6 June and then it will move to the GSV’s Haren location. Further schools and venues are being explored as potential hosts for the exposition.
