Welcome to Groningen! 

In order to familiarize yourself with the University of Groningen as quickly as possible we have an onboarding portal for new employees. There is a portal for employees who already live in the Netherlands, available in Dutch and in English, and there is a portal for internationals who are moving to the Netherlands. 

Step by step the onboarding portal will take you on your journey as a new employee from the preparation of your terms of employment interview to the first 100 days in your new job. In addition, the portal offers useful information to help you get a smooth start. Some of the pages will not be accessible until your UG-account has been activated.

For new international staff

Do you have a non-EU/EER nationality? Staff members of the Immigration Service Desk (ISD) are specialized in Dutch immigration laws. The ISD applies for (MVV) visas and residence permits for all prospective and current staff of the UG as well as for their family members. 

The ISD also assists all international guests to the UG on matters related to working at the University of Groningen and provides practical information about insurances, medical care, housing, university facilities, or any other aspect of daily life.

Partners of (new, academic) international staff are eligible for Dual Career Support if they have the intention of moving to Groningen.

Welcome! Introduction event

Four times a year the UG organizes a Welcome! meeting for new employees and scholarship PhD students in the form of an informal breakfast. For us it is important that newcomers to the UG not only become acquainted with their direct working or learning environment but also that they learn about the UG’s vision and mission.
