South Asia
The University of Groningen is involved in many (research) projects in South Asia. It is especially active in India, recognizing India’s increasingly important socio-economic and political role as well as its young and talented population. Together with Indian researchers and Indian institutions, UG researchers contribute to solutions to societal issues.
India - UG: mutually beneficial cooperation
India is a priority country for the University of Groningen for many reasons, including recruitment, student and staff exchange, and joint research and outreach. India benefits in turn from (research) cooperation with international HEIs including UG, as it aims to develop more evenly across all its states and has to accommodate a young population eagerly seeking knowledge.
Partnerships
The University of Groningen fosters bilateral relations with many Indian universities. Among its formal partners are IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore, the University of Pune, Presidency University, ISI, NLSIU, Bangalore, EFLU (Hyderabad), Amrita (Bangalore), Thapar University, Berhampur University, MS Ramaiah and Manipal University.
Research cooperation
Research projects conducted by University of Groningen researchers and their South Asian - Indian counterparts span a variety of faculties and institutes, covering areas such as science and engineering (especially materials science, physics and artificial intelligence), medical sciences (including public health), economics and business, history, demography, anthropology, innovation and entrepreneurship.
