The Privacy Statement contains general information about how your details are handled, who is responsible for data processing and which rights you have as a data subject. This information applies to all processing activities performed by CIT. Detailed information about individual processing activities can be found in the processing register.

Each faculty or service unit must keep a register of all instances when personal data are processed. For each processing activity, this register briefly describes which types of data are processed, why the data are collected, what will be done with the data, and who is responsible for the processing. This will enable you to check whether we are using your data in accordance with the stipulations of the GDPR.

Within the Center for Information Technology (CIT) there are processing operations that can be divided into the areas of Basic Workplace, Infrastructure, Educational Support and Innovation, Research and Organisational Systems. In the drop-down menu you will find the processing operations under the relevant domain.

Domain Basic Workplaces

The Basic Workplaces domain focuses on providing physical and virtual workplaces for the University of Groningen (RUG). The Basic Workplaces domain consists of the following teams:

Domain Infrastructure

The Infrastructure domain focuses on developing, managing, and maintaining the fundamental IT infrastructure of the University of Groningen. This includes, among other things, network infrastructure, data centers, storage capacity, cloud environments, and server management. The domain ensures that all IT systems are robust, secure, and scalable, providing a solid foundation for research, education, and administrative processes.

Additionally, this domain also encompasses workplace management, which focuses on supporting users by providing stable, secure, and well-functioning work environments. This includes managing hardware (such as PCs, laptops, and printers), software installations, updates, and offering technical support to ensure a smooth IT experience for staff and students.

In short, the Infrastructure domain within CIT supports both the technical backbone of the university and the daily IT needs of users, which is crucial for promoting continuity, innovation, and productivity within the university.

Educational Support and Innovation

Educational Support and Innovation (ESI) is the central support for all teaching at the University of Groningen. ESI is part of the Center for Information Technology (CIT).

ESI consists of multiple teams, which are:

  • Educational Design and Development
  • Educational Institutional Research
  • Educational Staff Development
  • ICT for Education
  • Onderwijs algemeen

From advising students and teachers, training, creating innovative educational applications and processing feedback, ESI enables teachers to develop themselves and improve the educational process from organization to design to assessment. Domain research

The CIT Research domain supports researchers with questions about data-driven research, grant applications and IT solutions for research. The domain collaborates with other research supporters within the faculty and the University Library.

Besides co-writing grant applications and publications, the domain advises in the field of (spatial) data visualization and data science (AI). Furthermore, use can be made of the domain's HPC and XR facilities.

The research domain consists of the following teams:

  • Digital Competence Center (Together with the UB)

Domain Organizational Systems

The Organizational Systems domain focuses on IT support in the areas of finance, HR, Facility Management, functional management, and application development of various business applications for different departments within the University of Groningen (RUG). Colleagues working here are responsible for, among other things, functional management, software development, and data processing for the RUG's services and faculties.
