Language and Intercultural Competence Matrix
The UG is currently working on an Language and Culture Policy that provides a framework for language and culture policy now and in the future. It will be a language/intercultural competence level system: a matrix to determine which level of English/Dutch/other language or intercultural competence a staff member should have based on the UFO profile, the international context in which he or she works, and his or her tasks. The system will be accessible to all staff members. After the levels have been determined, progress will be monitored via the Results & Development interviews.
The terminology database on higher education terminology (Dutch – English – Dutch) has been updated and expanded in 2018 to meet today’s requirements. Testing methods and systems to keep track of who has been tested and the results (related to levels) have been introduced. In the Language and Intercultural Competence Matrix, it will be considered how language and intercultural competence can be integrated into the UTQ (University Teaching Qualification) in such a way that, eventually, all lecturers will have sufficient knowledge and skills in both these fields to teach an international classroom.
