Bouman, Dr Thijs
Thijs Bouman is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. He works at the Department of Environmental Psychology and primarily studies behaviour in relation to sustainability. Bouman investigates which values motivate or demotivate climate behaviour. In this regard, he looks at how people’s individual values, and the values of others around them, influence their climate behaviour. An interesting find is that sustainable behaviour is seen as ‘doing the right thing’, which results in a sense of happiness.
He is also one of the UG academics collaborating on the TeSoPs project. TeSoPs stands for Technologically and Socially feasible transition Pathways for local energy system integration, and is a research project in which researchers from the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science and Engineering work together to optimize energy systems and the energy transition.
