New office to make an expat's life easier

The International Welcome Center North in Groningen officially opened its doors last month. One single place for expats to turn to for their paperwork and other questions related to their stay in the north of the Netherlands.

Foreigners who come to live in the North of the Netherlands for work or study, now have a place to go to in Groningen, to apply for residence permits, a social security number, housing or other practical questions. The need for such a place is high, so it appeared during the opening of the Welcome Center North on November 24, 2014. The office is located in the hall of the municipal building at the Gedempte Zuiderdiep. The number of 'new Dutchmen' keeps on growing. More than a third of the staff of the University of Groningen alone is foreign, not to mention the thousands of international students that study in Groningen. Or Philips in Drachten, where 170 employees of the 650 come from abroad.
