Students and alumni meet up in Hong Kong
On 4 June, the Face Career Team departed for Hong Kong –embarking on an inspiring journey. The reason for their trip was an international business plan competition called the ‘Global Student Challenge’ (GSC) organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Frido van Diem, board member of the EBF (Economics and Business Faculty Association) and his team were among the finalists challenging other universities such as Princeton University and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
Besides the busy programme, Frido and his team were very keen to meet other Dutch alumni living in Hong Kong. As soon as the news reached our alumni there, they called the University of Groningen to let us know that they would be more than happy to welcome the students in Hong Kong.
Frido van Diem: ‘Already on the first day we met up with a University of Groningen alumnus who brought us to his house and introduced us to his family. He showed us the border with China, from where we were able to see Shenzhen. We also hosted a University of Groningen alumni dinner at a Dutch restaurant. During dinner we talked to people such as the founder of Rabobank Hong Kong and his wife. This dinner was a big success and resulted in an invitation to have lunch with them the next day at the Royal Yacht Club of Hong Kong. It was a memorable and highly enlightening journey.’
