UG commemorates Second World War casualties
On 4 May, the UG commemorated all the students, staff members, and others who lost their lives during the Second World War. Rector Magnificus Jacquelien Scherpen, member of the Board of the University Hans Biemans, General Director of the Office Stephan van Galen, and student assessor Ruben Wagenvoort laid two flower arrangements in the Academy Building.
The flower arrangements were laid at the monuments for the UG students and staff members who lost their lives, on the left and right side above the stairs in the foyer of the Academy Building.
The UG also joined the annual municipal remembrance ceremony organized by Stichting 4 Mei Herdenking and participated in a walking procession, which began at the Jewish monument on Hereweg and ended at the St. George and the Dragon monument in the Martinikerk grounds, where a wreath was then laid.
Later this year, a few new Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) will be unveiled for the third consecutive year.
