UG 4th most sustainable university on worldwide ranking
We are proud to announce that, for the third year in a row, the University of Groningen ended up in the top five of the UI GreenMetric Ranking. This year, the UG ranked fourth place with 9450 points, after Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld (also with 9450 points) and Nottingham Trent University (9475 points). Wageningen University & Research finished in first place again with 9500 points. Worldwide, 1183 universities participated in this year’s ranking.
The UI GreenMetric ranking was set up by Universitas Indonesia to draw attention to sustainability in university policies and activities. The universities are assessed and ranked by comparing numerical data.
In 2022, the UG also ranked fourth place, with 9160 points. Since 2021, the UG has been in the top five of the ranking. In 2018, 2019 and 2020 the university was in the top ten. The fact that the UG is increasingly committed to sustainability is reflected in the ranking.
Sustainability at the UG
Sustainability is one of the core values of the University of Groningen. This means that the UG wants to integrate sustainable development into all facets of the university. Not only in teaching and research, but also in university business operations. All ambitions and objectives in the field of sustainability up to and including 2026 can be found in the Sustainability Roadmap. The Roadmap is part of the university's Strategic Plan.
