Mare Riemersma to join University of Groningen Supervisory Board
As from 1 November 2023, Mare Riemersma will join the Supervisory Board of the University of Groningen. She has been appointed by demissionary Minister of Education, Culture and Science Robbert Dijkgraaf. As a member of the Supervisory Board, Riemersma will be part of the Quality Assurance Audit Committee of the Board and as such, will be particularly responsible for the fulfilment of the Supervisory Board’s duties in the area of quality assurance. She is succeeding Annette Roeters, who joined the Board in 2015 and will leave as from 1 November.
Experience

Riemersma has extensive work experience in municipalities, healthcare, housing corporations, and education, in which she fulfilled various managerial functions. Since 2018, she is member of the Board of Drenthe College regional education centre (ROC). In addition, she is vice-chair of the Board of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW) Drenthe.
Contribution
Riemermsa is looking forward to contributing to the Supervisory Board of the UG: ‘Next to the UG’s important international position, its regional added value is of equal importance. Its positioning as University of the North gives an important boost to the region. I am happy to contribute to this development in my new role. In my view, linking academic knowledge with professional skills and more applied research from universities of applied sciences (HBO) and vocational education institutes (MBO) creates a wonderful opportunity to strengthen entrepreneurship and give a boost to medium and small-sized enterprises in the Northern Netherlands.’
