More than 100 female professors employed at UG for first time in history
The University of Groningen currently employs more than 100 female professors for the first time in history, as recent data from the HR department has shown. Those 101 professors do not include the 63 female professors of the UMCG. The percentage of female professors at the UG is currently 28.9%.
Aletta Jacobs chairs
25 out of the 100 female professors were appointed during Cisca Wijmenga’s time as Rector Magnificus. 16 of these were appointed from the Aletta Jacobs chairs. The chairs were announced in 2020 to aid in realizing a more inclusive and diverse university.
Target percentage 33%
It is the UG's aim to have 33% female professors employed by 31 December 2025. Several programmes have been set up in order to achieve this. Recruitment and selection procedures emphasize a balance in the male to female ratio. In addition, new recruitment procedures may occur for the Aletta Jacobs chairs. During a series of visits by Rector Magnificus Wijmenga aimed at discussing talent development and academic leadership, faculties indicated that they support a new recruitment procedure.
More information
All measures aimed at achieving a balance in the male to female ratio at the University can be read in the Gender Equality plan. More information can also be found on the Diversity and inclusion web page.
