Prof. dr. André Faaij appointed academic director Energy Academy Europe
The Energy Academy Europe (EAE) has appointed prof. dr. André Faaij as its academic director as of April 1st 2014. André Faaij will work in close co-operation with Bert Wiersema, the managing director of the EAE.
As academic director André Faaij will be the international figurehead of the EAE. In this role Faaij is responsible for the deepening and developing of the strategy in the areas of energy education, -research and -innovation. This task will include opening new doors to new strategic partners in mainly business but also in academia and knowledge institutes. Further strengthening of the international position of the EAE will be one of the main priorities. Together with his position as academic director, Faaij will also be appointed as distinguished professor at the University of Groningen.
Background
André Faaij is currently professor Energy System Analysis, scientific director of the Copernicus Institute and Head of Unit of the department Energy & Resources at the University of Utrecht. He has a master in Chemistry & Environmental Sciences at the University of Utrecht where he also earned his PhD degree.
André is a frequently cited and influential researcher, with a wide-ranging expertise in, amongst others: biobased economy, renewable energy, transport and alternative fuels, capture and storage of CO2, modelling and scenario analyses of energy systems, technological learning and innovation in energy systems and energy policy. He advises the European Commission, the UN, governments, companies and NGO’s. He was appointed ‘Young Global Leader’ by the World Economic Forum. He is the (co) author of more than five hundred publications and qualifies as “highly cited scientists” according to criteria of Thomson Reuters (global top 100 of his research field).
