What role does journalism play in building a democratic society? And how have digital, peripheral media – like blogs and independent websites – challenged traditional media? Although these platforms offer new opportunities, some also contribute to division by promoting more polarising content. Scott Eldridge explores the divisive role of nontraditional media, as well as how it can contribute to mending this fractured field.
